Beyond Bothnia publishes relaxed, practical guidance for people who travel independently by road.
The name comes from the Bothnia region of northern Sweden and Finland. That is where the perspective begins: long distances, changing seasons, border crossings, ferries, remote roads, and a practical respect for the conditions that turn an attractive route into a workable journey.
We begin with campervan, motorhome, caravan, car, and motorcycle touring in the Nordic countries and Europe. Bothnia is our origin rather than our boundary: coverage can expand wherever reliable official, operator, and local sources support something genuinely useful.
Articles separate durable touring methods from volatile local facts. When road rules, border requirements, overnighting, tolls, prices, seasons, or safety depend on place and time, we name the jurisdiction, show when the information was checked, and direct readers to the authority that governs the journey.
How route guides are researched
Route guides begin with current road, ferry, access, destination, and local authority information. Stable geographic context is kept separate from details that can change, such as schedules, seasonal services, parking rules, closures, and prices.
Suggested routes and example itineraries are editorial guidance rather than proof that every variation has been personally driven. When firsthand experience is available, it is labelled clearly. Otherwise, the guide says what still needs checking before travel and links to the source responsible for the current answer.
