Reviews and star ratings come with commercial limitations built in — some are incentivised, some are unverifiable, and none of them constitute tested technical or durability evidence — so treat them as anecdotes worth reading rather than proof of anything. A five-star average reflects how many reviewers gave a high rating. It doesn't tell you the roof box holds its declared mass, or that the stove meets the standard its box claims.
One more filter belongs here: cost. For each option, record the quoted price alongside anything else needed to get it working — mounting brackets, adapters, professional fitting — and note what it costs you in payload, whether that's mass reserved permanently or mass you only carry when the item is fitted. - Current checks before acting — exact product revision confirmed current, recalls or compatibility notices checked, any relied-on standard's current edition and amendments checked, rental-provider permission obtained if applicable.

A product listing that names a standard is telling you something worth checking, not something already proven. Two things are worth separating: standards scope, and claimed conformity. Naming a standard like ISO 11154 for roof load carriers or EN 1949 for LPG habitation systems tells you the scope that standard covers and the kind of testing it involves — it does not, on its own, establish that this particular product has actually been tested against it, that its conformity claim has been verified, or that the standard is a legal requirement for every product in its category. Where a listing does name a standard, check: the exact product and its stated version, whether that claimed conformity is documented rather than merely asserted, the standard's current edition and any amendment, and whether applicable regulations or a contract make it binding for this product.
